Project Manager – Tank Construction & Maintenance (FIFO)

About the role

Sun Engineering is seeking an experienced Project Manager to lead FIFO tank construction, repair and maintenance projects across mining, oil & gas, petrochemical and heavy‑industrial sites. You will be accountable for delivering multiple above‑ground storage tank (AST) projects safely, on time and within budget while managing multidisciplinary teams and subcontractors.

Key responsibilities

• Manage the full lifecycle of AST construction, shutdown and maintenance projects.
• Develop and execute project plans, mobilisation schedules, commissioning and close‑out activities.
• Coordinate site supervisors, engineers, QA/QC, HSE teams, subcontractors and suppliers.
• Prepare budgets, cost forecasts, progress claims and financial reports.
• Define construction methodologies, resource schedules and procurement strategies.
• Monitor productivity, implement corrective actions and manage project risks.
• Ensure compliance with Australian & International standards, client specifications and company procedures.
• Maintain client relationships, attend project meetings and promote a strong safety culture.

Required profile

• Degree in Mechanical, Civil, Structural Engineering or Construction Management.
• Extensive experience delivering AST projects (API 650/653) in mining, oil & gas, petrochemical or fuel‑terminal environments.
• Proven track record managing projects valued $1M–$50M, including major shutdowns.
• Experience in both brownfield and greenfield construction, structural steel, piping and heavy‑lifting operations.
• Strong commercial and contract administration skills with client‑facing experience.
