Production Specialist - Refinery Operations

About the role

We are looking for a Production Specialist to join the Asset Management team at Viva Energy’s Geelong Refinery. Reporting to the Asset Manager, you will help optimise manufacturing processes, uphold safety standards and support the reliable supply of fuels and specialty products.

Key responsibilities

• Lead HSSE initiatives, ensuring safety is the top priority and that critical safety processes such as permitting, isolations and management of change are applied.
• Develop, maintain and train staff on clear operating procedures, start‑up and emergency checklists, and monitor alarm trends for corrective action.
• Oversee process chemical inventories, guaranteeing availability for production needs.
• Plan and execute operational activities that support asset management strategies, including shutdowns, hydro‑carbon freeing, chemical cleaning, isolations and commissioning.
• Maintain HSSE‑critical equipment lists and define operating windows for static and rotating equipment in collaboration with integrity and reliability teams.
• Assist with plant changes following management‑of‑change procedures.

Required profile

• Experience working in a refinery or similar process‑industrial environment.
• Strong understanding of HSSE and process safety regulations.
• Ability to create and communicate unambiguous operating procedures and checklists.
• Proven capability to coordinate with process engineers, maintenance teams and other stakeholders.
• Attention to detail in monitoring alarm rates and chemical stock levels.
