Production Coordinator / Controller (Parental Leave Contract)

About the role

Penguin Random House New Zealand is looking for a Production Coordinator or Controller to join its North Sydney office in a parental leave contract role. Reporting to the Production Manager – Adults, NZ and BD, you will play an integral part in the production process of books and reprints.

Key responsibilities

• Manage book production processes so titles are delivered to budget, deadlines and agreed quality levels.
• Create and process layout files and PDFs, distribute them to project editors and sign off material for print.
• Obtain quotes and negotiate with printers for non-grid titles to secure the best price and quality.
• Work across the Adult, NZ and Business Development lists on print, ebook, reprints and POD as needed.
• Provide creative input and guidance to the supported publishing divisions.
• Manage hard copy and digital archives, recalling files when needed, and update the bibliographic system as required.

Required profile

• Previous production, publishing or design experience.
• Curiosity, organisational and numeracy skills, and attention to detail.
• Deadline-driven, able to manage competing priorities, and able to work independently and as part of a team.

Required skills

• Familiarity with the Macintosh environment.
• Good working knowledge of the Adobe suite.
