Principal Finance – Strategic Transformation

About the role

Sandfire is seeking a Principal Finance professional to lead finance transformation initiatives for its Motheo operation in Botswana. Based in Perth, this permanent role reports to the Commercial Manager – Motheo and combines technical accounting expertise with project delivery and stakeholder engagement.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and embed strategic finance improvement projects, ensuring they are scoped, governed, executed and become business‑as‑usual.
• Drive month‑end close enhancements to reduce timelines, improve efficiency and reporting quality.
• Maintain and embed Group accounting policies, providing technical guidance and ensuring consistent application.
• Develop second‑line assurance frameworks, monitoring activities and control improvements for asset financial reporting.
• Partner with Finance and IT to optimise ERP, Power BI, Pronto and Anaplan systems, improving data integrity and reporting capability.
• Prepare high‑quality reports, presentations and briefings for senior management.

Required profile

• Commerce, Accounting, Finance or Business degree; CA/CPA preferred.
• Minimum 8 years of finance, accounting, reporting, governance or finance transformation experience, preferably in mining or a complex multi‑site environment.
• Strong understanding of IFRS, accounting policies, financial statements and reporting controls.
• Proven experience leading finance improvement initiatives, process redesign and stakeholder engagement.
• Ability to work across geographically dispersed teams and travel internationally to Botswana as required.
