Principal Environmental Scientist – Contaminated Land

About the role

AECOM is seeking a senior contaminated land professional to join its Environment team in Darwin. You will work on a diverse portfolio of projects across the Northern Territory and nationally, providing high‑quality technical advice and leading investigations for defence, infrastructure, energy and resource clients.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and deliver contaminated land investigations, assessments and remediation projects.
• Provide senior technical advice on complex contaminated land and environmental management matters.
• Prepare and review technical reports, proposals, tender submissions and client correspondence.
• Develop investigation strategies, conceptual site models, sampling programmes and remediation approaches.
• Manage projects from scoping through delivery, ensuring quality, safety, budget and schedule compliance.
• Build trusted relationships with clients, regulators, contractors and internal teams.
• Mentor and guide junior staff, providing technical guidance and review.
• Contribute to business development by identifying new project and client opportunities.

Required profile

• Approximately 10+ years of experience in contaminated land consulting, environmental science, engineering or hydrogeology.
• Relevant tertiary qualification in environmental science, engineering, geology or related discipline.
• Ability to obtain and maintain an Australian Government security clearance (Defence projects).
• Strong communication skills with confidence engaging clients, regulators and multidisciplinary teams.
