Principal Engineer – Secondary Protection

About the role

CPP is seeking a Principal Engineer – Secondary to lead protection engineering on high‑voltage transmission and renewable energy projects across Australia. Based in Adelaide, you will work with a national team to develop robust protection philosophies and ensure safe, reliable operation of substations and battery storage systems.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and review protection schemes, relay settings and fault studies for complex transmission and renewable projects.
• Provide technical assurance, resolve protection challenges, and support commissioning and energisation activities.
• Mentor junior engineers and graduates, promoting consistency and best practice across the business.

Required profile

• Degree in Electrical or Power Engineering.
• Extensive experience in protection engineering for transmission, distribution or renewable projects.
• Chartered Professional Engineer status and registration on the National Engineering Register (highly regarded).

Required skills

• Advanced knowledge of protection relay technologies (Siemens, ABB, GE, SEL).
• Proficiency with power system analysis software such as DIgSILENT PowerFactory.
• Understanding of Australian utility standards and protection design practices.
