Principal Data Management Officer

About the role

DETSI is looking for a Principal Data Management Officer to lead the design, implementation and governance of data frameworks, systems and reporting processes that support Queensland Government innovation programmes. The role will ensure data collected across the Innovation Division is accurate, reliable and actionable, providing insights that shape program design, outcome measurement and continuous improvement.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, implement and manage data frameworks, systems, reporting and processes aligned with the Queensland Government’s innovation agenda.
• Lead data projects and activities within the Innovation Division, ensuring data quality and usability.
• Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to identify opportunities and drive evidence‑based solutions.
• Coordinate strategic monitoring, analysis and reporting of performance and financial outcomes.
• Trial, roll out and maintain data management systems.
• Analyse large and complex datasets to generate actionable insights.
• Prepare briefs, reports and dashboards for senior decision‑makers.

Required profile

• Proven experience leading data projects and initiatives, preferably in a government or innovation context.
• Strong ability to work closely with internal and external stakeholders.
• Excellent analytical mindset with a focus on accurate and reliable data.
• Understanding of program design, outcome measurement and impact evaluation.
• Commitment to fostering innovation, creating jobs and delivering better outcomes for Queenslanders.
