Principal Cyber Security Specialist

About the role

The Principal Cyber Security Specialist will operate as a senior technical specialist within the Security Operations Centre, providing expert advice, hands‑on engineering and incident response leadership across the organisation's security infrastructure.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and conduct technical investigations of security incidents, resolving complex escalations within agreed service levels.
• Provide expertise in capacity planning, configuration management, change management and documentation for security technologies.
• Drive continuous improvement of SOC services, including automation, monitoring, vulnerability assessment and remediation.
• Mentor and train analysts, prioritise workload and guide complex investigations.
• Collaborate with IT and external stakeholders to promote sound security practices and contribute to operational plans and security strategy.

Required profile

• 4+ years of advanced experience configuring, supporting and administering enterprise security solutions.
• Relevant tertiary qualifications or industry certifications (e.g., CISSP, GIAC, CEH, OSCP, CCSP, CISM).
• Experience with on‑call arrangements and out‑of‑hours work.
• Knowledge of security frameworks such as NIST and ISO 27001.

Required skills

• Enterprise firewalls, IDS/IPS, and application delivery controllers (WAF, reverse proxies, load balancers).
• VPN, networking, and multifactor authentication/RADIUS solutions.
• Email and web content filtering, identity & access management, PKI.
• Cloud security for AWS and Azure, SIEM, SOAR, EDR, NDR.
• Microsoft security stack including Sentinel and Defender.
