Principal Consultant – People and Engagement

About the role

The Office of the Public Guardian (OPG) is seeking a Principal Consultant, People and Engagement to provide high‑quality, strategic HR advice and support. You will work closely with leaders and employees to promote best practice in health, safety, injury management and overall people management.

Key responsibilities

• Advise on complex HR and industrial matters, interpreting legislation, enterprise agreements, awards, policies and practices.
• Deliver expert case‑management support for health, safety and injury‑management initiatives.
• Analyse data and insights to foster a collaborative, high‑performing work environment aligned with organisational objectives.
• Assist the team leader in performance and development management, providing coaching, mentoring and constructive feedback.
• Build partnerships with stakeholders to understand business needs and drive operational improvements.
• Support leaders in proactive, inclusive people‑management practices.
• Prepare concise, high‑quality correspondence and submissions on complex people‑management and health‑and‑safety issues.
• Contribute to the delivery of strategic outcomes for OPG alongside the Team Leader (P&E).

Required profile

• Formal qualification or degree in Human Resources is highly desirable.
• Demonstrated practical experience in HR or a health, safety and wellbeing related field.
• Strong understanding of HR legislation, industrial relations and best‑practice case management.
