Practice Manager – Accounting Operations

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Practice Manager to lead the day‑to‑day operations of our accounting and administration functions. This senior, hands‑on position will bring structure, visibility and discipline to people management, workflow governance, billing, compliance and reporting.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee daily practice operations to ensure smooth service delivery.
• Lead and support administration teams, coordinating workflow, task allocation and escalation.
• Maintain robust checklists, controls and reporting standards within Xero and internal systems.
• Ensure strong financial control, billing integrity, WIP and debtor management.
• Manage lodgment workflows, AML/CTF compliance and exception handling.
• Oversee client data onboarding, entity maintenance and changes across ASIC, CAS360, ABR or equivalent.
• Provide regular reporting on workflow utilisation, WIP, debtors and lodgments.
• Lead tax‑season operational planning, capacity planning, rostering and resourcing.

Required profile

• Proven experience managing operations within an accounting or taxation practice.
• Strong people‑management skills, leading teams of 10+ staff.
• Deep understanding of workflow management, job systems and compliance obligations.
• Confidence handling billing, WIP, debtors and operational performance.
• High attention to detail with a calm, organised approach under pressure.
