Polymer Properties Lecturer

About the role

The University of Wollongong invites applications for a Lecturer in Polymer Properties. You will lead world‑leading research across three funded projects in smart materials and sustainable technologies while delivering high‑quality teaching to undergraduate and postgraduate engineering students. The role includes a six‑month international secondment at Danmarks Tekniske Universitet (DTU) in Copenhagen.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct experimental research and data analysis for projects on atmospheric water management, artificial muscles, and rubber‑band batteries.
• Undertake a six‑month research secondment at DTU, Copenhagen.
• Develop and deliver teaching materials and coursework in polymer properties.
• Prepare research manuscripts for submission to high‑ranking international journals.
• Supervise and mentor HDR and undergraduate project students.
• Contribute to grant applications and School governance activities.

Required profile

• PhD in polymer properties, polymer engineering, polymer physics or a closely related field.
• Demonstrated expertise in materials testing and characterisation.
• Strong publication record in respected international journals.
• Experience preparing or contributing to competitive research grant applications.
• Proven ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary research teams.

Required skills

• Mechanical testing of polymers.
• Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC).
• Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR).
• Dynamic Mechanical Analysis (DMA).
