Planning / Architectural Draftsperson

About the role

A niche multi-disciplinary consulting firm with offices in Sydney and Newcastle is looking for a Planning / Architectural Draftsperson. The firm mainly designs residential buildings, including dwellings and medium-density construction, and most of the work concerns existing buildings damaged by fire, tree impact or vehicle impact. The role is expected to be autonomous, with potential growth into senior or lead positions as the business grows.

Key responsibilities

• Measure the original building and prepare accurate, detailed architectural drawings.
• Prepare statements of environment reports and reviews of applicable Local Environmental Plans (LEP) and Development Control Plans (DCP).
• Prepare drawings and lodge planning applications through the planning portal.
• Lodge DA applications, manage the DA process and prepare Statements of Environment and Waste Management Plans.
• Coordinate with subconsultants such as heritage, bushfire, stormwater, structural, civil, surveyors and arborists.

Required profile

• Highly proficient in 2D AutoCAD (versions 2009 to 2014), using paper and model space, and able to maintain drafting standards and drawing office practices.
• Able to visualise architectural plans and prepare preliminary outlines of structural elements to assist designers.
• Attention to detail, accuracy and ability to solve problems quickly; self-motivated team worker with strong organisation skills who can work independently and meet strict deadlines.
• Fluent spoken and written English, able to communicate with staff and clients.
• Willingness to start as soon as possible; visa sponsorship may be considered.
