Pharmacist Intern – On‑site Internship

About the role

The Pharmacist Intern position at NSW Health is an on‑site internship located in the Greater Sydney Area. Interns work alongside registered pharmacists to support safe and accurate medication use within hospital pharmacy departments.

Key responsibilities

• Assist registered pharmacists in dispensing medications and preparing prescriptions.
• Review medication orders and support patient counseling under supervision.
• Participate in medication reconciliation and clinical ward rounds where applicable.
• Maintain accurate medication records and ensure compliance with legislation and NSW Health policies.
• Contribute to quality‑improvement activities and attend educational sessions.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary healthcare teams to provide patient‑centered care.

Required profile

• Currently enrolled in or recently completed an accredited pharmacy degree and eligible for pharmacist internship registration.
• Strong foundational knowledge of pharmacology, therapeutics and medication safety.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills for interaction with patients, carers and healthcare teams.
• Good organisational and time‑management abilities in a busy clinical environment.
• Commitment to professional ethics, patient confidentiality and adherence to relevant legislation.
• Willingness to learn, accept feedback and participate in training, audits and quality‑improvement initiatives.
