Peer Worker - Tamworth Accommodation

About the role

Flourish Australia, a community mental health organisation, is hiring Peer Workers for its Tamworth accommodation teams. Peer Workers work in the community and in an accommodation setting to support people with a lived experience of mental health challenges, using their own lived experience as a form of expertise. Positions are part-time (45.6 or 60.8 hours) on a 24/7 rotating roster including weekday, weekend, evening and overnight shifts.

Key responsibilities

• Hold recovery and social citizenship conversations with service users to build trust and reciprocity
• Guide and support each person in their recovery, keeping them in the lead of their own journey
• Help reduce stigma and discrimination around mental health challenges
• Support people to access activities that promote independence
• Support skill development through self-directed learning, information, training and education

Required profile

• Certificate IV or above in a relevant field, or at least 2 years full-time experience in human services
• Lived experience of a mental health challenge and recovery
• Alignment with Flourish Australia's values and commitment to recovery-based practice
• Current Australian driver's licence; private vehicle use may be required, with travel allowance
