Payroll Officer

About the role

Grant Thornton Australia, a professional services firm offering audit, tax and advisory services, is looking for an experienced Payroll Officer to join its Sydney team. The role manages and oversees payroll functions, ensuring accuracy and compliance with all relevant regulations. It suits a detail-oriented person with strong analytical skills who works well in a team.

Key responsibilities

• Run the full end-to-end payroll process, delivering payroll on time and accurately for all employees
• Ensure compliance with payroll legislation, including tax and superannuation requirements
• Work with HR, finance and external auditors to resolve payroll queries and issues
• Maintain and update payroll systems, keeping data accurate; experience with Workday Payroll is highly regarded
• Identify and implement process improvements, and resolve payroll discrepancies promptly

Required profile

• Minimum of 5 years of payroll experience, preferably in the professional services industry
• Ability to handle pressure and multiple tasks while staying accurate
• Team player with strong communication and stakeholder management skills
• Fast learner with experience across multiple payroll platforms

Required skills

• Intermediate to advanced Excel, including advanced functions and formulas for data analysis and reporting
• Knowledge of payroll processes and compliance
