Patient Transport Officer / Ambulance Transport Officer

About the role

Reporting to the Team Leader, Ambulance Services, the Patient Transport Officer (PTO) and Ambulance Transport Officer (ATO) are essential members of the Royal Flying Doctor Service’s transport team. They ensure safe, efficient movement of emergency and non‑emergency patients, healthcare staff and specialised equipment between the Alice Springs base and the local hospital.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with operations and clinical teams to deliver optimal patient care during road transport on a 24/7 rotating roster.
• Maintain vehicles and medical equipment in operational readiness, adhering to RFDS safety and security standards.
• Provide patient care within the allocated scope of practice, following RFDS policies and procedures.
• Assist in the patient transfer facility and support ad‑hoc transport needs as required.
