Paid Internship in Indigenous Genomics

About the role

The South Australian Genomics Centre (SAGC), together with the Australian Alliance for Indigenous Genomics (ALIGN) and the Aboriginal Health Equity Unit (Wardliparingga) at SAHMRI, is seeking expressions of interest from Indigenous students, researchers or professionals for a full-time 12-week paid internship in genomics starting December 2026. The internship offers hands-on lab training in genomics, learning how genomic sequencing is conducted, running a small genomics project and expanding knowledge of Aboriginal health research in South Australia.

Required profile

• Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander identification.
• Undergraduate or postgraduate student, professional or researcher seeking practical placement experience in genomics.
• Background in biology, genetics, biotechnology, health and medical sciences or another relevant discipline.
• Prior knowledge of or exposure to a laboratory environment.
• Availability to undertake the placement.

What we offer

• Up to $10,000 per internship.
• Full-time or part-time availability, up to a total of 10-12 weeks.
