Paediatric Dental Resident – 12‑Month Full‑Time Position

About the role

The Royal Dental Hospital of Melbourne is seeking two motivated general dentists to join the Specialist Paediatric Dentistry Team as Paediatric Dental Residents for a 12‑month immersive year starting in 2027. This role provides intensive, hands‑on experience with a broad caseload of specialist‑level paediatric patients.

Key responsibilities

• Provide clinical care to children and adolescents, including those with complex medical, developmental and social backgrounds, under specialist supervision.
• Participate in theatre sessions, delivering paediatric dental treatment under general anaesthetic.
• Conduct telehealth consultations and triage remotely, supporting rural and outreach practice.
• Assist with clinical administration and the day‑to‑day running of the Paediatric Dentistry Unit.
• Offer teaching and mentorship to dentists, oral health therapists and dental assistants as confidence grows.

Required profile

• Dental qualification eligible for registration with AHPRA.
• Demonstrated ability to treat children and work within a multidisciplinary team.
• Strong communication skills and a clear understanding of personal competency boundaries.
• Ideally two years of general dental experience post‑graduation with paediatric exposure (candidates with one year and strong paediatric exposure may be considered).
• Valid Working with Children Check, Police Check and compliance with vaccination requirements.
