Packaging Technologist

About the role

ALDI Australia is hiring a Packaging Technologist within its Sustainability team, based in Minchinbury. This is a permanent full-time position in which you will help design packaging solutions that are cost effective while having a positive sustainability impact, working alongside colleagues who want to improve packaging in Australia.

Key responsibilities

• Work with Buying teams and product suppliers to implement cost-effective packaging solutions across allocated product categories.
• Develop business cases for packaging improvements covering technical, commercial and recyclability considerations.
• Act as subject matter expert for internal stakeholders on technical packaging expertise and technology.
• Set best-in-market packaging specifications for ALDI-exclusive branded products and implement them.
• Build relationships with packaging manufacturers to identify new formats that optimise packaging and save costs.
• Work with the global ALDI Packaging Group to develop and maintain best-in-class packaging and apply global insights locally.

Required profile

• Degree in a Science or Engineering discipline.
• Experience in packaging design, optimisation and material selection, ideally in FMCG.
• Strong technical knowledge of packaging formats and materials, especially rigid plastics.
• Excellent communication skills and proven ability to drive change and build relationships.
• Working knowledge of the Australian packaging regulatory landscape.

Required skills

• Project management and data analysis, including advanced Excel.
• Knowledge of the PREP (Packaging Recyclability Evaluation Portal) tool is desirable but not required.
