Pacific Controller – Financial Controllership Lead

About the role

Marsh is seeking a senior finance professional to lead the Financial Controllership function for the Mercer Pacific organization. Based in Melbourne, this hybrid position requires at least three days per week in the office and reports to the Marsh Pacific Controller.

Key responsibilities

• Ensure accurate and timely financial results for local legal entities, delivering monthly, quarterly and annual P&L and Balance Sheet reporting under US GAAP and local GAAP.
• Drive governance of balance‑sheet reconciliations, including timely completion, substantiation, issue investigation and resolution.
• Provide day‑to‑day accounting advice and maintain strong stakeholder engagement across Finance, Business, Audit, Tax, Treasury, Legal and Compliance.
• Support strategic initiatives such as M&A accounting due diligence, integrations, and special projects.
• Review Board papers and senior‑management reporting, offering accounting judgments as required.
• Execute internal controls effectively, including SOX‑aligned requirements, and remediate control deficiencies.
• Lead and develop the controllership team through coaching, workload prioritisation and continuous learning.

Required profile

• Minimum 12 years progressive financial controller experience, including leadership roles.
• Undergraduate degree plus CA or CPA qualification; MBA is desirable.
• Strong interpersonal skills to lead in a complex matrix environment and drive change.
• Experience supporting M&A, integration activity or complex legal‑entity structures.
• Demonstrated business acumen and ability to communicate accounting outcomes to non‑finance stakeholders.
