OH&S Specialist

About the role

RMIT is seeking an OH&S Specialist for a full-time, fixed-term position based at the Melbourne CBD campus, running until June 2028. The role provides operational expertise and technical leadership to advance safety, hazard prevention and risk management across RMIT facilities and manufacturing partner organisations, working with industry representatives, regulatory stakeholders and academic leaders. It focuses on investigating current and emerging workplace hazards linked to automation, robotics and Industry 4.0/5.0 systems, in line with WorkSafe Victoria expectations and relevant legislation.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, implement and evaluate hazard-specific training modules, benchmarking reports and OH&S frameworks for risk management across manufacturing environments.
• Design and deliver tailored industry guidance materials and lead pilot testing of safety interventions.
• Facilitate workshops and consultation sessions with key stakeholders.
• Collect, analyse and interpret workplace health and safety data to inform decision-making, project evaluation and reporting.

Required profile

• Degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Ergonomics, Human Factors Engineering or a related discipline.
• Demonstrated experience conducting workplace risk assessments, safety audits and hazard investigations.
• Experience developing safety procedures, training programs or guidance materials.
• Ability to work independently and contribute to multidisciplinary project teams.

Required skills

• Strong knowledge of Australian WH&S/OH&S legislation, standards and risk management principles.
• Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
• Analytical, report-writing and project management skills.

What we offer

• Salary of $121,213 - $136,507 plus 17% superannuation.
• Flexible working arrangements.
