Network Engineering Intern - Chelsea Heights

About the role

An established IT services and technology solutions provider in Chelsea Heights, Melbourne, is seeking a motivated Network Engineering Intern. It suits IT, networking, telecommunications or cybersecurity students and recent graduates who want hands-on Australian industry experience in network infrastructure, connectivity, troubleshooting and IT systems. The internship is part-time, three days per week for 12 weeks, and is self-funded.

Key responsibilities

• Assist with network installation, configuration and maintenance
• Support troubleshooting of LAN/WAN, Wi-Fi and connectivity issues
• Help configure routers, switches and firewalls
• Support network monitoring and performance checks
• Gain exposure to TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP and VPN technologies
• Assist with network security and access management
• Support network infrastructure upgrades and maintenance
• Document network configurations and technical procedures
• Assist with onsite and remote network support and collaborate with IT professionals on technical projects

Required profile

• Currently studying or recently completed IT, Network Engineering, Telecommunications, Cybersecurity or a related qualification
• Located in Melbourne or able to commute to Chelsea Heights
• Valid visa allowing internship participation; international students are welcome
• Previous networking experience is advantageous but not essential

Required skills

• Networking fundamentals: TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, LAN/WAN
• Basic knowledge of routers, switches, firewalls and wireless networks
• Familiarity with Windows and Microsoft 365
• Cisco, Fortinet, Ubiquiti or similar technologies are advantageous
• Strong troubleshooting, communication and teamwork skills, and a proactive attitude
