National Freight and Logistics Manager

About the role

A market-leading Australian manufacturer is creating a newly appointed National Freight and Logistics Manager position, reporting to the GM Supply Chain. The role covers freight, logistics and fleet operations across Australia and is central to designing and implementing a unified national transport model. It defines the national transport strategy, integrates state-based operations and supports a new Transport Management System (TMS).

Key responsibilities

• Lead the review and national standardisation of transport practices.
• Develop process maps to support the new TMS, aligned with operational needs and business goals.
• Collaborate with stakeholders and business unit heads on freight strategies that support growth, efficiency and customer service.
• Manage fleet operations across a diverse vehicle portfolio and support State Managers and their local Transport teams.
• Manage third-party carrier relationships, including contract negotiation and supplier selection.
• Optimise route planning, load utilisation and scheduling.
• Prioritise safety and compliance with the Heavy Vehicle National Law (HVNL).
• Analyse performance and cost data, create meaningful KPIs and act on them.
• Champion innovation, digitisation and continuous improvement.

Required profile

• Highly experienced supply chain and logistics expert with a proven track record in freight, transport and distribution.
• Experience managing a national footprint across all states and multiple locations, leading a large team.
• Strategic thinking, change management mindset and a data-driven approach to process improvement.
• Ability to use fact-based dashboards to drive decisions.
• Australian or New Zealand citizenship or permanent residency; applications are only progressed for eligible candidates.
