National Environmental Manager

About the role

A newly created Senior Environmental Manager position in the Defence & Social Infrastructure division, supporting Defence estates in South Australia and the Northern Territory. The role covers environmental program delivery and land management across both states, with regular travel between them. Preference is for the role to be based in the Northern Territory, but other locations such as South Australia are considered.

Key responsibilities

• Serve as the senior subject matter expert for land management deliverables across multiple bases
• Act as key point of contact for senior Defence customers, building relationships with Defence personnel, contractors and local authorities
• Manage bushfire control and feral animal control activities to protect estates and maintain ecological balance
• Liaise with Defence Estate Land Management to align and streamline land management activities
• Plan and coordinate land management works to meet project timelines and standards
• Conduct regular site inspections and audits against land management protocols
• Prepare and present reports to senior executives on achievements and improvements
• Promote continuous improvement by identifying process enhancements and best practices

Required profile

• Senior management experience in environmental and land management, preferably in a complex operating environment
• Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Land Management or a related field
• Demonstrated experience in bushfire and feral animal control
• Strong understanding of environmental legislation and compliance
• Experience liaising with government agencies and stakeholders on land and environmental projects
• Proven ability to manage multiple projects and deliver on time
• Leadership skills, including leading a team of professionals including a graduate
• Australian citizenship and ability to obtain and maintain a Defence Security Clearance
