MQ Systems Programmer – Senior Mainframe Role

About the role

The MQ Systems Programmer will provide senior technical leadership for IBM MQ services on z/OS, ensuring high availability, security and performance across the bank’s mainframe environment.

Key responsibilities

• Lead MQ installation, configuration, performance tuning, monitoring and support activities.
• Install, upgrade and maintain IBM MQ on z/OS using SMP/E.
• Administer MQ Queue Managers, clusters and queue sharing groups to guarantee optimal availability.
• Collaborate with development, operations and infrastructure teams to deliver new MQ solutions and enhancements.
• Monitor system performance and capacity, proactively identifying improvement opportunities.
• Troubleshoot complex incidents, conduct root‑cause analysis and implement long‑term fixes.
• Support disaster‑recovery planning and testing to ensure platform resilience.
• Maintain security and compliance, including RACF/SAF integration.
• Mentor junior team members and provide technical guidance.
• Participate in an on‑call roster for critical business services.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in IBM MQ systems programming within large enterprise z/OS environments.
• Strong expertise in MQ architecture, installation, performance tuning and capacity planning.
• Solid understanding of z/OS operating system and mainframe technologies.
• Proven troubleshooting and root‑cause analysis skills.
• Excellent communication and collaborative abilities.
• Relevant tertiary qualifications or equivalent industry experience.
