Medical Education Registrar

About the role

The Northern Territory Government Department of Health is recruiting Medical Education Registrars for the Medical Education Unit at Royal Darwin and Palmerston Hospitals, in partnership with Flinders University. The role sits within the Division of Medicine in Darwin and offers a 12-month position starting in February 2027, combining clinical medicine, medical education, mentoring, curriculum development and academic engagement. It is aimed at doctors interested in education, leadership and future academic careers.

Registrars work closely with the Clinical Dean and the medical education team to deliver and support the Flinders University medical program, becoming part of the student learning experience through clinical teaching, mentoring, assessment and educational leadership across the two hospitals. Several vacancies are available, fixed from 1 February 2027 for 12 months.

Required profile

• General registration as a medical practitioner with the Medical Board of Australia (AHPRA).
• Passion for teaching, mentoring and medical education.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Enjoys working collaboratively with students, clinicians and academic staff.
• Commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
• Interest in improving health outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and supporting culturally safe healthcare.
• Senior Registrar applicants should have completed relevant physician training examinations or equivalent qualifications.

What we offer

• Remuneration package range of $143,997 to $179,967 (including salary $122,264 to $153,195) plus allowances for Registrars; Senior Registrars earn $195,576 to $213,632 (including salary $166,617 to $182,143) plus allowances.
• A 12-month appointment with exposure to clinical education, medical leadership, research and academia.
