Medical and Surgical Ward Nurses – Talent Pool

About the role

Registered Nurses are needed to provide person‑centred care across multi‑day inpatient episodes in surgical, medical and rehabilitation units at Macquarie University Hospital. The role is within a multidisciplinary team in an integrated academic health precinct.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive nursing assessment, planning, intervention and evaluation throughout the inpatient stay.
• Monitor and respond to clinical deterioration, including early warning score escalation and rapid response participation.
• Provide post‑operative and specialty care such as wound and drain management, pain control, mobility support, and specialty observations.
• Administer medications safely, including intravenous therapy, and maintain accurate electronic clinical documentation.
• Participate in admission, transfer, discharge planning and patient/carer education, coordinating with allied health and community services.
• Support students, new staff and contribute to quality improvement, accreditation and professional development activities.

Required profile

• Current registration as a Division 1 Registered Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia, no practice restrictions.
• Recent acute inpatient experience in surgical, medical or rehabilitation settings, or clearly transferable experience.
• Strong clinical judgement, prioritisation and escalation skills for deteriorating patients.
• Commitment to ongoing professional development and ability to work within multidisciplinary teams.

Required skills

• Base salary from $82,666 to $110,115 per annum (RN Year 2–8) plus 12% superannuation.
