Mechanical Reliability Engineer

About the role

BlueScope is seeking a Mechanical Reliability Engineer for its Plate Mill at the Port Kembla manufacturing facility. Reporting to the Asset Manager, you will lead reliability initiatives, eliminate recurring failures and shape maintenance strategies to maximise plant availability and performance.

Key responsibilities

• Lead defect elimination and root‑cause analysis (RCA) activities across the Plate Mill.
• Develop, review and optimise maintenance strategies for critical assets using reliability‑centred maintenance (RCM) principles.
• Analyse equipment performance data to identify improvement opportunities and drive refurbishment projects from concept to implementation.
• Provide technical guidance on complex equipment failures and support major shutdowns, down‑time and maintenance events.
• Coach and mentor maintenance personnel, fostering a culture of reliability and continuous improvement.
• Support asset lifecycle planning and long‑term capital investment decisions.

Required profile

• Mechanical trade qualification, preferably with a Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or an engineering degree.
• Significant experience in heavy‑industry, large‑scale manufacturing environments.
• Proven track record in reliability engineering, defect elimination and maintenance leadership.
• Strong analytical skills with ability to interpret reliability data and drive improvement projects.
