Mechanical Engineer – Water Infrastructure

About the role

Join GHD’s Water Digital Delivery Group as a Mechanical Engineer, providing technical leadership on water and wastewater treatment projects for utilities, local government and resources clients in Western Australia.

Key responsibilities

• Develop high‑quality multi‑disciplinary technical outcomes and coherent mechanical designs.
• Produce technical specifications, datasheets and detailed designs for mechanical equipment in municipal and industrial water/wastewater plants.
• Apply Australian and international pumping, piping and water authority design standards.
• Collaborate with clients to define requirements, address concerns and deliver solutions.
• Manage project financial targets and mentor graduate mechanical engineers.

Required profile

• Relevant Mechanical Engineering qualification recognised in Australia.
• 4+ years experience on water/wastewater treatment or transfer projects.
• Experience writing technical specifications and designing hydraulic systems, pumps and piping.

Required skills

• Hydraulic principles and pump selection calculations.
• Piping design (metallic and plastic, above‑ground and below‑ground).
• Knowledge of Australian and international pumping and piping codes.
• Familiarity with municipal water authority design standards.
• Use of Excel for system calculations and WANDA hydraulic modelling software (desirable).
