Mechanical Engineer – Product Development

About the role

Orica is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join its Orebody Intelligence team, designing and delivering innovative geospatial and mining technologies. You will own the full product lifecycle, from concept through to commercial deployment and ongoing support.

Key responsibilities

• Lead mechanical design activities, creating 3D CAD models, engineering drawings and technical documentation.
• Develop and manage Bills of Materials, design records and support New Product Introduction and manufacturing handover.
• Conduct engineering calculations, tolerance analysis, material selection and FEA/CFD simulations to validate designs.
• Prototype, test, and investigate product failures, performing root‑cause analysis and corrective actions.
• Collaborate with electronics, software, systems, manufacturing and quality teams to deliver reliable electromechanical solutions.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• 3–5 years of product development experience, preferably with electromechanical or industrial products.
• Australian citizenship or permanent residency.
• Proven ability to manage multiple technical priorities with minimal supervision.

Required skills

• Proficiency in 3D CAD (Onshape) and advanced modelling techniques.
• Strong knowledge of GD&T, fit selection, tolerance analysis and DFMA principles.
• Experience with engineering simulation tools such as Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD).
• Hands‑on experience with prototyping, machining, fabrication, additive manufacturing and rapid prototyping.
• Ability to design complex mechanical systems including sealing solutions, threaded assemblies, rotating equipment and power transmission components.
