Mechanical Design Engineer – Mining Equipment

About the role

Join Schlam Payload to design some of the largest mining equipment in Australia and watch your concepts become steel structures in our workshop. You will be involved from initial concept through to production, collaborating closely with manufacturing and operations teams.

Key responsibilities

• Develop detailed 3D models, drawings and bills of materials for large mining tray and structural product lines.
• Create production‑ready documentation that supports efficient manufacturing.
• Collaborate with engineering, operations and production teams to ensure designs meet functional and quality requirements.
• See projects through from concept to build, including on‑site installation and testing.
• Maintain and improve existing product designs, ensuring compliance with fabrication and welding standards.

Required profile

• Mechanical Engineering degree (preferred) or equivalent practical experience.
• Proven experience in mechanical design and engineering documentation.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
• Ability to work both autonomously and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Required skills

• SolidWorks (or comparable CAD software).
• General CAD modelling capabilities.
• Knowledge of fabrication, welding and heavy industrial equipment.
• Mechanical design principles.
• Engineering documentation preparation.
