Master Less Than 45m - Casual

About the role

Captain Cook Cruises, part of Journey Beyond, is looking for a Master for a casual position on a vessel under 45 metres on Sydney Harbour. As the most senior person aboard, you are responsible for the safety of guests and crew and the care of the vessel, working with the hospitality and catering teams and supported by a marine operations team.

Key responsibilities

• Take full command of the vessel and ensure its safe, compliant operation at all times
• Complete pre-departure checks and routine tests of navigation, steering and engine control systems
• Lead, mentor and develop the crew, setting the standard for safety and professionalism
• Conduct safety drills and manage emergency situations
• Oversee the safe, efficient and timely boarding and disembarkation of guests
• Keep the vessel well maintained and seaworthy, reporting defects through MEX
• Uphold the Safety Management System and protect the marine environment
• Report incidents and near-misses, maintain accurate vessel logs and work with the Venue Manager and shoreside teams

Required profile

• Master of a vessel under 45 metres
• Port of Sydney Local Knowledge Certificate
• Valid First Aid Certificate
• Medical Certificate
• A National Criminal History Check is part of the recruitment process
