Manager, Professional Capability Development

About the role

Clayton Utz is seeking a Manager, Professional Capability Development to lead a shift in how the firm builds capability. Working closely with the Head of Leadership and Learning and the People and Development team, you will turn firm strategy into practical, applied learning experiences that fit into the flow of real client and matter work. The role reports to the Head of Leadership and Learning and sits within the national Learning and Leadership team.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the design, delivery and continuous evolution of the firm's professional capability curriculum, moving from a program-based model to an in-role, apprenticeship-style approach.
• Co-create and run a continuous learning strategy combining in-role development, short courses and digital resources.
• Facilitate high-impact learning experiences directly with lawyers, leaders and business services employees.
• Bring initiative and creative problem-solving to reimagine how capability is built at the firm.
• Champion change with partners, practice group leaders and other stakeholders.
• Oversee initiatives within agreed budgets and timeframes.
• Manage and develop the Learning and OD team through regular check-ins and performance conversations.

Required profile

• Degree in learning and development, organisational psychology, adult education or human resources, or equivalent experience.
• 7+ years' experience in learning, capability or organisational development, preferably in professional services or a knowledge-intensive environment.
• Proven experience leading a team and improving individual and team performance.
• Experience facilitating and leading change with senior stakeholders such as partners and practice group leaders.
• Ability to identify capability gaps and recommend practical solutions.
• Self-motivated, adaptable and comfortable working with ambiguity.
