Manager Financial Control

About the role

The City of Sydney is seeking an experienced people leader to head the Financial Control team within its Financial Planning and Reporting Unit. This senior position is responsible for financial accounting, statutory reporting, governance and year‑end reporting obligations.

Key responsibilities

• Lead a team of finance professionals to ensure integrity of financial records and strong internal controls.
• Provide strategic advice on financial governance, reporting and compliance to senior leaders.
• Identify and implement improvements to processes, systems and ways of working.
• Drive a culture of continuous improvement and accountability.

Required profile

• Demonstrated ability to balance operational delivery with strategic leadership.
• Experience empowering teams, challenging traditional approaches and leading change.
• Tertiary qualifications in accounting, finance, commerce or related discipline.
• Membership of a recognised professional accounting body.

Required skills

• Strong knowledge of financial accounting and statutory reporting requirements.
• Expertise in financial governance and internal control frameworks.
