Manager, Budget Management – Infrastructure Investment & Finance

About the role

The Queensland Department of Education is seeking a Manager, Budget Management to lead a small team responsible for the $2 billion+ Infrastructure Investment Portfolio. You will work closely with senior executives, other government agencies and internal stakeholders to ensure accurate budgeting, reporting and financial decision‑making.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee the preparation and submission of the department’s infrastructure budget, ensuring accuracy and timely communication with executive management and external agencies.
• Produce budget reports for committees, boards and senior leadership to support strong financial governance.
• Lead a team delivering high‑quality budget management services, innovative solutions and responsive support to internal clients.
• Conduct detailed data analysis and quality‑assurance across the investment portfolio to manage fund availability.
• Maintain relationships with key stakeholder groups to secure reliable data for current and future budgeting needs.
• Provide high‑level advice on budgetary, infrastructure and asset‑management matters to senior officials.
• Prepare briefing notes, financial verifications, reports and recommendations on budget and infrastructure issues.

Required profile

• Proven leadership experience managing teams in a capital‑intensive environment.
• Strategic thinking with the ability to influence senior decision‑makers.
• Strong communication skills for briefing senior executives and external partners.
• Experience in budget management within an infrastructure or large‑scale portfolio setting.
• Ability to analyse complex financial data and ensure data quality.
