Maintenance Officer

About the role

Mercy Health is hiring a Maintenance Officer for its facility in Mandurah, Western Australia. Reporting to the Service Manager, the officer keeps the aged care facility safe and well maintained through ongoing repairs and preventative maintenance of buildings, plant, equipment, furniture and gardens. The main purpose is to ensure the safety and upkeep of the facility in a timely and competent way.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out ongoing repairs and preventative maintenance of building, plant, equipment and furniture.
• Maintain gardens, lawns and landscaped areas to a high standard, keeping them safe, clean and welcoming.
• Perform routine gardening duties such as mowing, pruning, planting, weeding, mulching, fertilising and irrigation maintenance.
• Liaise with contractors and identify and report areas for improvement.
• Assist with identifying and acting on health and safety issues to protect residents, staff and visitors.

Required profile

• Previous maintenance experience; trade background or qualifications preferred but not essential.
• Previous experience in aged care or a hotel environment is advantageous.
• Ability to work independently and as part of the local team.
• Resilient, compassionate and committed to resident-centred care.

Required skills

• Experience managing contractors and maintaining environmentally friendly garden practices.
• Excellent time management, organisational and communication skills, with problem-solving ability.
• Working knowledge of Work Health and Safety standards and regulatory maintenance frameworks for residential aged care.
• Proficient computer skills; experience with a computer-based maintenance system is advantageous.
• Evidence of, or progress toward, a current police record check, a trade qualification or more than 3 years' experience in a commercial maintenance position, and a current driver's licence.
