Maintenance Fitter

About the role

Ortech Industries, an Australian-owned company founded in 1985, manufactures Durra Panel, Durra Steel Sections and Durra Panelised Building Systems at its Bendigo, Victoria facility. It is looking for a Maintenance Fitter to join a growing company in Bendigo. The role covers general maintenance across the steel and panel departments, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting and problem solving, and building new manufacturing machinery.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out general maintenance throughout the steel and panel departments
• Perform preventive maintenance
• Troubleshoot and solve problems, recommending improvements to prevent recurrence
• Rectify production breakdowns quickly and systematically
• Build new manufacturing machinery
• Document daily activities in detail and suggest plans of improvement
• Train and give direction to apprentices

Required profile

• Trade qualifications (essential)
• Heavy industrial maintenance experience
• Ability to analyse faults, troubleshoot and rectify problems
• Experience fixing production breakdowns promptly
• Attention to detail, able to work independently and in a team while mentoring apprentices
• Sound understanding of manufacturing practices and occupational health and safety
• Ability to work under pressure and meet set timelines
• Post-trade qualifications such as supervision, project management or an 'S' class electrical licence are highly regarded

Required skills

• Pneumatics and hydraulics, including reading and interpreting circuit diagrams
• Fabrication: MIG/TIG welding and acetylene
• Forklift ticket (preferable)
