Locum Dental Hygienist - Flexible Part-Time

About the role

An established dental healthcare provider in Belconnen, Canberra, is looking for an experienced locum dental hygienist to assist about 2 days per week initially. The position suits someone who wants to add a few extra days to their week without a full-time commitment, or who is already working part-time or juggling several locum roles. There is no dental assistant allocated to the role, so applicants must handle clinical duties independently.

Key responsibilities

• Provide routine hygiene appointments, including scaling and polishing
• Perform periodontal assessments and maintenance treatments
• Deliver oral hygiene education and preventive dental care
• Provide fluoride treatments and personalised oral health recommendations
• Manage appointments and treatment room turnaround independently
• Ensure compliance with clinical and infection control procedures

Required profile

• Current AHPRA registration as a Dental Hygienist
• Experience working in an Australian dental practice
• Ability to perform hygiene treatments independently
• Confidence managing clinical appointments without chairside support
• Availability to work approximately 2 days per week

Required skills

• Room preparation, instrument management and infection control
• Excellent patient communication and interpersonal skills
• Strong time-management skills
