Locum Dental Hygienist - Canberra

About the role

A well-established dental provider in the Belconnen area of Canberra is looking for an experienced locum dental hygienist. The position is independent clinical work, about 2 days per week initially, with flexibility around the days. It suits someone who enjoys working autonomously and managing their own clinical workflow, and is ideal for a hygienist wanting flexible locum work without a full-time commitment.

Key responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive hygiene treatments, including scaling and polishing
• Perform periodontal assessments and manage periodontal maintenance appointments
• Deliver preventive dental care and personalised oral hygiene education
• Provide fluoride treatments and other preventive services as appropriate
• Educate patients on maintaining long-term oral health
• Independently manage clinical appointments, room preparation and turnaround
• Maintain infection control standards and accurate clinical documentation
• Deliver a professional and positive patient experience

Required profile

• Current AHPRA registration as a Dental Hygienist
• Previous clinical experience in a dental practice
• Ability to work independently without a Dental Assistant; no chairside assistance will be provided
• Confidence managing clinical procedures, room setup and infection control on your own
• Strong organisational and time-management skills
• Excellent communication and patient-care skills
• Availability for about 2 days per week, ideally Tuesday and Wednesday
