Locomotive Maintainer

About the role

Gemco Rail is seeking experienced Locomotive Maintainers to join its Dynon depot team. You will carry out inspections, maintenance, fault finding and repairs on diesel locomotives and related equipment, ensuring compliance with safety and operational standards in a fast‑paced rail environment.

Key responsibilities

• Perform repairs and routine maintenance on locomotives and associated systems.
• Participate in modification programmes, equipment re‑conditioning, fault diagnosis and testing.
• Respond to derailments or mishaps and support recovery activities.
• Contribute to continuous‑improvement initiatives that boost safety and efficiency.
• Complete all required documentation accurately and on time.

Required profile

• Trade qualification such as Mechanical Fitter, Turner, Boilermaker, Diesel Mechanic or Electrical Fitter.
• Medically fit and physically capable of performing the duties.
• Willingness to work rostered shifts, overtime and occasional weekends.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, able to work effectively within a team.
• Self‑motivated with a commitment to ongoing training and development.
• Understanding of Rail Safety and Occupational Health & Safety legislation.
• Current Australian driver’s licence.
