Local Government Trainee - Parks and Gardens

About the role

The City of Busselton is looking for a motivated Local Government Trainee to join its Parks and Gardens team. Over 12 months you will help maintain the City's parks, gardens, foreshore areas and natural spaces, and complete a Certificate II or III in Horticulture. The role is full-time, fixed term for 1 year, starting in January 2027, and pays $47,286-$56,451 plus super (salary depends on age).

Key responsibilities

• Maintain parks, sporting grounds, foreshore areas, landscaped areas, natural areas, street trees and road verges.
• Carry out landscaping, planting, pruning, mulching, fertilising, spraying and weed/pest and disease control.
• Operate plant safely, including chainsaws, edgers, mowers, tractors and commercial vehicles, and keep equipment clean and serviced.
• Assist with the City's horticultural and natural areas maintenance programs and the City Depot Nursery.
• Provide friendly customer service while representing the City.
• Complete time cards accurately and follow workplace health and safety procedures.

Required profile

• No extensive experience needed; ideally a love of the outdoors and eagerness to learn.
• Current C Class driver's licence, proof of right to work in Australia and a national police clearance within 6 months.
• Valid White Card (or ability to obtain one).
• Commitment to on and off-the-job training and study.
