Lecturer / Senior Lecturer, Civil Engineering

About the role

James Cook University (JCU) is seeking a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in Civil Engineering to strengthen its teaching, research and industry engagement in the discipline, with expertise in Geotechnical Engineering and/or related fields. The position is based in Townsville, Queensland, on a full-time continuing appointment of 36.25 hours per week.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in Civil Engineering and related disciplines
• Develop and lead a research programme addressing challenges relevant to Northern Australia and the tropics
• Secure research and consulting income through industry, government and competitive funding opportunities
• Supervise Honours, Masters and Higher Degree Research students
• Collaborate with industry partners in mining, critical minerals, sustainable infrastructure and emerging technologies
• Raise the profile of JCU's Civil Engineering discipline through research excellence, partnerships and community engagement

Required profile

• A PhD in Civil Engineering or a closely related discipline
• Expertise in Geotechnical Engineering or related areas such as soil mechanics, rock mechanics, mining or sustainable infrastructure
• A proven or emerging research profile shown through publications and research activity
• Experience or strong potential to attract research funding and build industry partnerships
• Commitment to high-quality teaching and student success
• Ability to work collaboratively across disciplines and engage with industry, government and community stakeholders

• Salary of $112,810-$133,110 for Academic Level B and $137,166-$157,465 for Academic Level C, plus 17% superannuation
