Lecturer - Philosopher of Ethics

About the role

The School of Historical and Philosophical Inquiry at the University of Queensland is seeking a full‑time Lecturer specializing in Ethics. The successful candidate will join a vibrant academic community, teaching undergraduate philosophy courses and extending ethics education into interdisciplinary programmes such as data science, health, and business analytics.

Key responsibilities

• Design, deliver and assess undergraduate and postgraduate ethics courses, including meta‑ethics and applied ethics.
• Coordinate curriculum development and course scheduling across the School.
• Supervise honours and doctoral research projects, providing mentorship and performance feedback.
• Develop and maintain an active research programme, secure external funding, and publish in peer‑reviewed journals.
• Engage with internal committees, build external partnerships, and contribute to university service and community outreach.

Required profile

• PhD in Philosophy with a focus on Ethics (candidates without an awarded PhD will not be considered).
• Demonstrated excellence in course design, coordination and delivery at the undergraduate level.
• Ability to teach ethics to students outside the humanities, including fields such as data science, health sciences, and business analytics.
• Evidence of a developing research reputation addressing contemporary moral challenges.
