Lecturer – Electronic Music & Sound Design

About the role

The University of Western Australia’s Conservatorium of Music seeks a full‑time Lecturer to lead and expand its Electronic Music and Sound Design (EMSD) program. You will shape curriculum, mentor students across undergraduate to postgraduate levels, and enhance the Conservatorium’s reputation in contemporary electronic music.

Key responsibilities

• Provide academic leadership for the EMSD program, driving growth, visibility and student recruitment.
• Design and deliver high‑quality teaching, supervision and mentorship in electronic music composition, music technology and sound design.
• Conduct impactful research and creative practice, securing competitive funding where possible.
• Build and maintain industry, community and research partnerships that enrich student experience.

Required profile

• PhD in a relevant discipline (e.g., electronic music, music technology, sound design) with professional industry experience.
• Demonstrated expertise in electronic music composition, production and technology‑driven creative practice, including computational or algorithmic approaches.
• Proven record of teaching and curriculum development in contemporary popular electronic music.
• Strong research or creative practice portfolio evidenced by publications, performances, recordings or funded projects.

Required skills

• Advanced proficiency with industry‑standard music technologies, especially Ableton Live and Max/MSP (or equivalents).
• Experience in music software development and code‑based music making.
• Competence in computational and algorithmic composition techniques.
