Lead Project Engineer

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Lead Project Engineer to oversee and manage complex power generation and transmission projects for Hitachi Energy Australia. The role involves leading technical aspects from conceptual design through commissioning, ensuring delivery within scope, budget and schedule.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and manage the technical execution of assigned projects, ensuring compliance with specifications, standards and company policies.
• Develop and review engineering designs, specifications and technical documentation, providing guidance and mentorship to the project team.
• Coordinate with internal departments and external stakeholders, including clients, contractors and suppliers.
• Conduct technical risk assessments and implement mitigation strategies.
• Manage project schedules, budgets and resources, addressing deviations promptly.
• Act as the primary technical contact for clients, delivering updates and building strong relationships.
• Oversee testing, commissioning and handover phases to ensure performance requirements are met.
• Drive continuous improvement in engineering processes and project execution.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering (Master's preferred).
• 8‑10 years of project engineering experience in power generation, transmission or distribution.
• Proven leadership experience delivering complex projects.
• Strong knowledge of Australian and international engineering standards.
• Excellent communication, negotiation and problem‑solving skills.
• Willingness to travel to project sites as required.

Required skills

• Power systems engineering, including generation technologies, substations and grid infrastructure.
• Project management methodologies and tools (PMP certification highly desirable).
• Technical risk assessment and mitigation.
• Compliance with health, safety and environmental regulations.
