Lead Laboratory Technician

About the role

Komatsu Australia is hiring a Lead Laboratory Technician for its Condition Monitoring Services (CMS) facility in Thornton, NSW. The laboratory analyses samples and provides accurate data to support smarter maintenance decisions for mining and construction equipment. The role is hands-on, supervising laboratory personnel and leading day-to-day operations.

Key responsibilities

• Provide day-to-day supervision and leadership to laboratory personnel and coordinate workflow
• Maintain and monitor instrument performance and coordinate third-party repairs
• Drive a strong safety culture by maintaining and improving safe work practices
• Support the development and improvement of laboratory processes and test methods
• Take part in continual improvement initiatives to increase efficiency, reduce costs and improve quality and safety
• Work closely with Komatsu teams, customers and suppliers while supporting ISO 9001:2015 requirements

Required profile

• Tertiary qualification in a scientific or laboratory discipline
• Proven expertise in laboratory testing techniques, instrumentation and methodologies
• Experience in hydrocarbon chemistry is highly desirable but not essential
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work with people at all levels
• Ability to lead, support and develop others, with excellent time management under pressure
