Lead Data & AI Engineer

About the role

Built, a privately owned construction company operating across Australia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom, is hiring a Lead Data & AI Engineer in Sydney. The role shapes an enterprise-wide data environment from the ground up, using modern Microsoft technologies, and works with business leaders to solve real problems and deliver measurable outcomes.

Key responsibilities

• Shape the Microsoft Fabric-based data environment while staying hands-on with the technology.
• Build and evolve the data platform that underpins reporting, analytics and future AI capability.
• Create trusted datasets and models so teams can easily access and use data.
• Explore practical applications of AI and help bring new solutions into the business.
• Set engineering standards and mentor other engineers as the team grows.
• Partner with business leaders to solve real problems and deliver measurable outcomes.

Required profile

• Tertiary qualification in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology or a related discipline.
• Demonstrated experience delivering modern data, software, analytics or AI solutions in complex environments.
• Experience in an AI-native agentic software delivery environment.
• Ability to mentor others and contribute to technical standards and engineering capability across a team.

Required skills

• Data modelling, engineering and scalable data architecture.
• Modern cloud-based data platforms, ideally Microsoft Fabric.
• Experience evaluating and implementing practical AI use cases.
