Lawyer: Professional Liability

About the role

A highly regarded Australian law firm with an established national insurance practice is recruiting a lawyer for its specialist Professional Liability team. You will work on complex professional liability and insurance litigation matters, including defending professional negligence and indemnity claims and acting for insurers and insured professionals in high-value disputes.

Key responsibilities

• Defend professional negligence and indemnity claims involving lawyers, barristers, financial advisers, real estate professionals, engineers and architects
• Act for insurers and insured professionals in complex, sensitive and high-value disputes
• Advise on professional liability, insurance coverage and policy interpretation
• Manage claims involving alleged breaches of professional duties and negligence
• Assist with complex litigation, including multi-party disputes and class actions
• Work with Counsel, experts, insurers and other stakeholders to develop resolution strategies
• Advise on risk management, claims prevention and dispute resolution

Required profile

• 2-6 years' PQE, ideally gained within a reputable insurance litigation practice
• Experience in defendant professional indemnity, professional liability or broader insurance litigation
• Commercially minded, with a genuine interest in specialising in professional liability insurance

Required skills

• Drafting pleadings, preparing advice and managing disputes
• Strong technical litigation skills
• Excellent communication and relationship management, especially on sensitive claims
