Laboratory Assistant – Geochemistry

About the role

ALSGEOCHEMISTRY in Orange is hiring two Laboratory Assistants for its geochemistry laboratory. The role is residential, with on-the-job training in the technical components and procedures, and involves full-time 8-hour shifts on Monday to Friday rosters: 6:00 am to 2:00 pm and 1:30 pm to 9:30 pm. Candidates must currently live in or near Orange, NSW and hold current Australian work rights.

Key responsibilities

• Weigh, digest or fuse geological samples for analysis
• Maintain accurate records and documentation
• Calibrate and maintain laboratory instrumentation and equipment as required
• Assess data quality so it meets client reporting standards
• General housekeeping: cleaning laboratory equipment, glassware and the area
• Sample preparation and manual handling may be required

Required profile

• Tertiary qualification in Chemistry or a related field is desirable but not essential
• Experience in a high-production laboratory is highly regarded
• Basic understanding of analytical chemistry concepts
• Ability to work with minimal supervision and to multi-task
• Commitment to safety and adherence to HSE guidelines
• Flexibility to work the stated rosters continuously, including public holidays and weekends
