Junior Data Scientist – Healthcare AI

About the role

We are looking for a motivated Junior Data Scientist to join the Australian Epilepsy Project’s Technology & AI team in Heidelberg. You will work with large‑scale, multimodal healthcare datasets to develop machine‑learning solutions that directly support epilepsy research and improve patient outcomes.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with researchers, clinicians and stream leads to identify machine‑learning opportunities.
• Prepare, clean, transform and analyse complex datasets including imaging, clinical records, cognitive assessments and genetics.
• Develop, evaluate and optimise machine‑learning models and analytical pipelines.
• Design and execute experiments to validate data‑science hypotheses.
• Support deployment and integration of models into the AEP platform and monitor production performance.
• Document work, contribute to quality and regulatory processes, and promote best practices.

Required profile

• Recent tertiary qualification in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering or a related field.
• Strong interest in applying data science to healthcare challenges.
• Ability to work in multidisciplinary teams and communicate technical concepts.

Required skills

• Python programming.
• Machine‑learning techniques and statistical methods.
• Experience with cloud‑based computing environments.
• Version control using Git or similar tools.

What we offer

• Salary $87,139 – $90,680 per annum plus up to 17 % superannuation.
• Fixed‑term contract until 31 December 2026.
